The baseline

Movement is a standard worth measuring.

These figures bring together recent federal data on adult and high school activity. They are a snapshot of reported activity, not a promise about any individual’s health or outcome.

Guideline benchmark

For adults: 150 to 300 minutes, plus strength work twice weekly.

Federal guidance calls for 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week, or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous activity, plus muscle-strengthening activity on two or more days. It also notes that some activity is better than none.

How to use this page.

This page uses public U.S. government data and guidance. Every statistic above links to the primary source and identifies the data year. Estimates are survey-based, so definitions and populations vary by source.

We review this page monthly, or sooner when a source publishes a newer estimate. Existing statistic links stay in place when figures are refreshed.
